In a horrific development, a pregnant woman was allegedly strangled to death on a UP train because she objected to a co-passenger for smoking.
According to a GRP official, Chinat Devi (45) was travelling in the general bogey of Punjab-Bihar Jallianwala Express when she objected to a co-passenger, identified as Sonu Yadav, as he was smoking.
GRP police station In-Charge in Shahajanpur, AK Pandey said that Sonu Yadav attacked the woman after a heated argument and strangled her.
After the incident, the train was stopped at Shahajanpur and the woman was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
The deceased and her family were on their way to Bihar for taking part in Chhath puja festivities, Pandey said.
The accused was arrested and the body was sent for post-mortem, he said.
