Uday Chopra bats for legalisation of marijuana, Mumbai Police has epic response

Uday Chopra has never shied away from speaking his mind on Twitter, even if he has been trolled for his opinion. Recently, the actor endorsed the legalisation of marijuana, claiming that it was “part of our culture”.

“I feel India should legalize marijuana. Firstly, It’s part of our culture. Secondly, I think if legalized and taxed it can be a huge revenue source. Not to mention it will remove the criminal element associated with it. Plus and most importantly it has a lot of medical benefits,” he tweeted.

Uday was quick to add that he was not a recreational user of marijuana, but felt that its legalisation would be “a wise move, given our history with the plant”.

He went on to explain, “Well in Holi, Bhaang (which is similar to marijuana) has been used for centuries. Also during Mahashivratri many sadhus smoke it in emulation of Shiva. Guess more religion than culture but the two are kind of interrelated.”

The Mumbai Police Twitter handle, which is known for its witty and creative way of educating people about law and order, schooled Uday like a boss. In a tweet, the Mumbai Police warned Uday that although he is “privileged to express (his) view on a public platform”, the possession, consumption and transportation of marijuana continues to be punishable under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
