He is brother of JeM chief and dreaded terrorist Maulana Masood azhar.

NIA was earlier contemplating not to file a charhesheet till the agency got a shot in the arm with the arrest of 37-year-old Ashiq Baba, a former Maulvi in Srinagar.

The breakthrough came after Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and Military intelligence (MI) tipped off NIA on Aashiq Baba who, before his arrest acted as a double agent.

Investigation conducted by NIA revealed that four local Kashmiri JeM members namely Mohammed Ashiq Baba alias Mohammed Ashaq, Syed Munir-Ul-Hassan Qadri, Tariq Ahmad Dar and Ashraf Hamid Khandey had facilitated a group of three heavily armed Pakistani terrorists and helped them as they infiltrated through the International Border (IB) in Samba-Kathua sector. They even arrranged for their travel from the border to Hotel Jagdmaba in Jammu and Subsequently to Nagrota.

Highly trained and equipped with AK-47 rifles and explosives , the three terrorist attacked Officers’ Mess Complex of Indian Army’s 166 Medium Regiment at Nagrota in the wee hours of November 29.

Seven army personnel attained martyrdom while three others were injured in the attack. Terrorists were killed by security forces.

NIA investigation revealed that Maulana Abdul Rouf Asgar, Deputy Chief of Jaish-e-Mohammad masterminded the Nagrota attack. He worked out the plan and provided training to the three Pakistani terrorists.

He also directed Mufti Asgar (Launch Commander of JeM in Kashmir region) to provide training, funds, equipment etc to local JeM member Mohammed Ashiq Baba alias Mohammed Ashaq.

Ashiq Baba was trained at a JeM training camp at Manshera in Pakistan. He was given money to arrange logistics along with GPS enabled Huawei mobile phone to communicate with JeM leaders in Pakistan.

NIA is investigating further into the case.
