A man strangled his wife, hanged her body from a ceiling fan to fabricate a scene of suicide and then spent over 12 hours consuming liquor before surrendering to police in Gurugram.

The sensational murder case was reported from the tony Suncity residential society on Friday morning. The accused went to the sector 53 police station and surrendered before officers.

The man had a bitter relationship with his wife since they got married in 2013.
Sources say the woman was allegedly raped by the accused’s uncle. He forced her to withdraw the case against him and then fixed her marriage with his nephew.

“The accused was earlier living with his family in Delhi and was engaged in the retail business. The couple had recently separated from the family and was residing here in Suncity at a rented residence for the past three months,” said assistant sub-inspector Ashwani Kumar, the investigating officer of the case.

“Following the accused’s surrender, we went to his rented place in Suncity and found the victim’s body hanging from a ceiling fan. The accused confessed that he had an altercation with his wife on Thursday afternoon and he beat her. The situation escalated and he strangled her in a fit of rage,” Kumar said.

The accused initially thought that he would create a scene of suicide and accordingly suspended her body from the fan. He then locked the flat and consumed liquor the entire night at Gurugram’s Rajiv Chowk.

But as there were some external injury marks on the body, he realised that hiding the crime would not work in his favour and so he confessed.

“My sister was sexually assaulted before marriage and she was continuously tortured after that. They even kicked and punched on her stomach at the time of pregnancy. She underwent miscarriage because of this inhuman torture. She had narrated her ordeal to me many times in the past but did not raise her voice to protect her marriage life,” the victim’s sister added.

“The male members of her husband’s family including his uncle misbehaved with her and molested her in the past. They were just torturing her. If her husband had any problem with her or was not satisfied, he should have divorced her rather than kill her,” she said.
