The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today denied media agency reports of party chief Amit Shah making assurances on Ram Mandir in a meeting in Hyderabad on Friday, saying that “no such matter was even the agenda.” “Yesterday in Telangana, BJP President Amit Shah didn’t make any statement on the issue of Ram Mandir as being claimed in certain sections of the media,” the national party clarified on Twitter.

BJP president Amit Shah in a rally on Friday said that the construction of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya will begin before the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a party meeting in Hyderabad on Friday, Shah said that steps will be taken to clear the decks for starting the temple’s construction before the general election.

BJP National Executive member Perala Sekharjee had briefed the media about the meeting at BJP’s Telangana state unit office.

“Considering the developments, I believe that construction of Ram temple will begin before the coming general elections,” Sekharjee had quoted Shah as saying.

However, on Saturday, the official Twitter handle of the BJP denied that Shah made any such comment.

The BJP chief, who arrived on a day-long visit to Hyderabad, also told the meeting that the elections will not be advanced.

Shah told his party colleagues to prepare strategies to bring the party to power in the state.
