When Rahul had Modi campaign for the Congress

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is currently on a campaign blitz in Chhattisgarh. The state which will be heading for the first phase of voting on November 12, is seeing last-minute appearances from top leaders from across political parties to rally support.

But Gandhi has probably managed to acquire the most star-studded campaigner for the Congress — PM Narendra Modi himself. Or at least a lookalike of him.

Gandhi shared a photo with Modi’s doppelganger Abhinandan Pathak on Instagram with the caption “Look who I found campaigning for the Congress Party in Chhattisgarh”. Pathak has been campaigning for the Congress in various seats of the region, including Jagdalpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon and Bastar.

In the photos, Gandhi can be seen beaming next to Pathak, who is donning Modi’s trademark look of a Nehru jacket and a tricolour muffler. The only difference, the quintessential lotus badge is replaced by the hand. Gandhi’s post has delighted social media users, drumming up more than 50k likes.

Pathak, who bears an uncanny resemblance with the prime minister, first came into the spotlight in 2014 when he was seen enthusiastically campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party and his mirror image.

However, it has not been all ‘acche din’ for Pathak. Last month, Pathak switched sides and joined the Congress.

What led him to make the change? “People have torn my clothes, slapped me. I am being beaten and cursed,” Pathak said.

“Since I look like Modiji, people will always ask me where are the ‘acche din’ (good days), as promised by Modiji ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Hurt by seeing problems of the common man, I left the BJP’s ally to join Congress last month,” Pathak told PTI.

On his campaign trail, Pathak always targets the prime minister, while mimicking his style, over his promises of ‘good days’ and depositing Rs 15 lakh in bank accounts of every Indian after retrieving black money stashed abroad.

“Mitron (friends), I came here to tell you the truth that ‘achche din’ (good days) are not going to come. It was a false promise and please vote for the Congress which can ensure your development,” he said.
