Kamal Haasan in Vishwaroopam 2
Despite its initial struggle, Vishwaroopam 2 is turning out to be a hit at the box office. The film opened in limited screens on Friday, which translated into a slow start for Kamal Haasan’s film.
However, the positive word-of-mouth seems to have helped Vishwaroopam 2 gain momentum, and the film witnessed good footfall in theatres over the weekend.
According to reports, Vishwaroopam 2 has earned about Rs 20 crore in its first weekend. The film raked in Rs 6.8 crore on its first day, and despite getting mixed reviews, the box office collection remained steady and did not take a hit. On Day 3, it earned around Rs 7 crore in Tamil Nadu, and is quickly turning out to be a hit.
Kamal’s latest outing is the third highest Tamil opener of 2018, according to trade analysts. While Rajinikanth’s Kaala (Rs 21 crore) is at the top, Suriya’s Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (Rs 10 crore) is in the second position.
Written and directed by Kamal Haasan, the film also has Andrea, Pooja Kumar and Rahul Bose in the lead roles.
Vishwaroopam 2 opened to mixed reviews, but the action blocks and some clever portions have made the film work well with the audience.
