Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena is reported to have dissolved the island country’s parliament paving way for snap elections.

On Friday, spokesperson for Sri Lanka’s recently appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa acknowledged that he remained short of the ‘magic number’ 113 to prove majority in Sri Lankan parliament. President Sirisena recently ousted former PM Ranil Wickremesinghe from his post and appointed Rajapaksa as PM.

But it now seems certain that fresh elections will be held in Sri Lanka almost two years ahead of schedule. There is a possibility that the elections will be held in the month of January.
