Rewari rape victim’s father helped main accused get into Army

After it was found out that the main accused in the Rewari gang-rape case is a serving Army man, it has now emerged that it was the victim’s father who helped the main accused, Pankaj, get into the Army.

Neighbours from the same village as the victim and the main accused said the victim’s father would train several men from the village for free to get into the Army and Pankaj was one of these many people. Pankaj then managed to get into the Army through a sports quota.

A 19-year-old CBSE topper was kidnapped in broad daylight in Haryana before she was allegedly gang-raped by a dozen men in Haryana’s Mahendargarh district.

The incident happened on October 12. The family lodged a written complaint at a police station in Rewari around 10 pm on the same day.

The police’s inaction for almost 14 hours has been a big question. “An enquiry has already been initiated. Those who are guilty will be punished. The mistakes committed will be rectified,” the DGP of Haryana responding to the above question said.

Almost 72 hours have passed since the FIR was lodged and not a single arrest has been made by the police.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Nazneen Bhasin, Superintendent of Police in Nuh, has been constituted. Addressing the media, Bhasin said she was confident of nabbing the accused at the earliest.

The victim’s family has questioned the authorities asking what had the police done in the past 72 hours. The details of the accused were handed over to the police by the victim herself.

It remains to be seen whether constituting the SIT does any good. However, the SIT did get a breakthrough in the case.

The accused, after allegedly raping the 19-year-old, called for a doctor when her condition deteriorated.

The doctor has been taken into custody and was even brought to the crime spot to identify the same and help the police in the investigation.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar not only refused to answer the questions posed by the journalists but also snapped at them when he was confronted with proofs that exposed the incompetency of the Haryana Police.
