Judge’s wife, son shot at by his security guard in Gurgaon’s busy market

An official security guard of a district judge shot at latter’s wife and son in Gurgaon, Haryana on Saturday, the police said.

Additional District Judge Krishan Kant’s wife Ritu (38) and son Dhruv (18) were allegedly shot at by his personal security staff in a crowded market area in Sector 49.

According to DCP-East Sulochna Gajraj, the two were rushed to a hospital. The mother and son are in “critical” condition.

The police said the incident occurred at around 3.30 pm when Ritu and Dhruv had gone shopping in the Arcadia market. They were accompanied by the judge’s guard Mahipal.

“Some locals informed the police about gunshots being fired outside the Arcadia market. When a police team reached the spot, they found Ritu and Dhruv lying in a pool of blood.”

Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Bokan told PTI that Mahipal was being interrogated to establish the reason why he opened fire.

Mahipal was posted with the judge and his family for the past two years.

MORE DETAILS

Mahipal, after shooting, tried to drag and put Dhruv in the car.

According to a witness, Mahipal was seen brandishing his revolver with which he also threatened the crowd telling them not to help Dhruv.

Accused Mahipal then escaped from the spot in the car and reached Sadar police station. Upon reaching there, he opened fire there also when the SHO tried to capture him but in vain.

MAHIPAL AND GURUGRAM POLICE

The Gurugram Police is investigating the matter.

This incident raises questions on the police’s role as Mahipal was a constable in the Gurugram Police and was posted with judge and his family, by the police, for security reasons.

When asked about Mahipal’s motive, the police sources told India Today that the accused was mentally unstable because of which he resorted to such an act.

“Neither did the police nor the family know anything about his mental state. If the family had known, they could’ve reported about the same and asked for a replacement.”
