1 security personnel killed, 3 injured in ongoing gunfight in Kashmir

A personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (J&K) was killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in Batmaloo, near Srinagar. One personnel of the J&K Police and two of the Central reserve Police Force have been injured in the gunfight.

The encounter started early Sunday morning.

Director General of Police SP Vaid said the operation was launched after receiving specific information about the presence of the militants.

On a specific information about presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was launched in Batmaloo, Srinagar, leading to exchange of fire, Vaid said in a tweet.

The DGP said the operation is on.

Meanwhile, sources said security forces have been able to corner Lashkar commander Naved Jatt. However, there is no official confirmation in this regard so far.

Internet services in the region have been suspended as a precautionary measure.
